During the recent Gondwana-10 meeting in Cape Town, it was proposed that a working group should be formed to facilitate communication between ichnologists working on Gondwanan trace fossils. The primary aim of this working group is to correlate the environmental and stratigraphic distribution of ichnotaxa between the Gondwanan continental fragments and to attempt to recognise which ichnotaxa (if any) are endemic.

A newsletter will act as the primary means of communication between the working group members. This will be distributed over the Internet, although a limited number of hard copies will be produced for those without Internet access. This newsletter will contain contact information, contributorsí current research, articles, announcements and a 'debate' section. The newsletter will also act as a forum for reporting, and discussing, the activities of the Subcommission on Gondwanan Stratigraphy (SGS), of which I was elected a voting member.

Therefore, I would like to hear from anyone who would like to become a member of this working group and contribute to the newsletter. Please send your contributions via email, if possible, and structure them as follows: Name, address, email, phone, fax, outline of current research relating to Gondwanan ichnology (about 100 words), your recent (last few years) references relating to Gondwanan ichnology, any articles you care to submit (a few hundred words) and any suggestions for the topic of debate.

Please contribute something to this newsletter (even if just the contact and current research sections). The level of activity of this working group will depend on you, the ichnological community. Please send contributions (in English preferably, but other languages are acceptable) to Dr. Simon Braddy <S.J.Braddy@bris.ac.uk>. Finally, please pass on this announcement to anyone who you think might be interested in joining this working group.
