Venue: The 19th European Sedimentological Meeting will be held at the Geological Institute of the University of Copenhagen from August 24 to 26, 1999. The scientific programme will include a topical session on "Sediments and Animal Behaviour" organised by Richard Bromley and Alfred Uchman.

Theme: The small island of Bornholm (Baltic Sea) lies on the Fennoscandian Border zone. Thanks to block faulting, sedimentary rocks of many ages are exposed in a small area, from Early Cambrian to Late Cretaceous. These sediments display a wide variety of trace fossils, bioturbational styles and ichnofabrics. The Palaeozoic rocks are hard and yield traditional types of field exposure. The Mesozoic rocks include completely uncemented sands, and by using knives, extensive serial sections may be cut through the biogenic structures. The ichnofabrics of the Jurassic sands in particular have close counterparts in the cores from oil-company wells in the North Sea.

Duration: 3 days.

Field leaders: Richard Bromley and Alfred Uchman.

Begins: Copenhagen main railway station, August 20.

Ends: Copenhagen main railway station, August 23.

Transportation: Bus.

Participants: Minimum 6, maximum 20.
