jessica_searesAdjunct faculty member Jessica Seares received her Ph.D. in 2003 from the University of Georgia's Institute of Ecology. Her dissertation explored the economic, social, and ecological effects of trade liberalization in the Eastern Caribbean.  Dr. Seares completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from Rutgers University, and during that time spent a year at the Institute for Arctic Biology in Fairbanks, Alaska, studying physiological ecology of overwintering.  In 2003, Dr. Seares served as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Georgia’s Department of Anthropology, examining the ethics of conservation research and practice.  In 2004, she helped the Society for Conservation Biology write their first Code of Ethics, in which she advocated for fair and equitable exchanges with local communities affected by conservation projects such as the creation of national parks. From 2004 to 2006, she served as a faculty member in the International Programs Department at Boston University, traveling to England, Tanzania, India, and Mexico studying social, ecological, and economic dimensions of globalization. Dr. Seares is a founding member of the Social Sciences Working Group at the Society for Conservation Biology and is a member of the World Conservation Union's Theme on Indigenous and Local Communities, Equity and Protected Areas (TILCEPA).
